Dumai Hotels
Dumai is a primary port along the east-coast of Sumatra. Located about 189 km north of Pekanbaru and lying opposite the Straits of Melaka and Melaka city in Malaysia, Dumai has now become a visa-free entry point for Malays. There are fast ferry services available every day to and fro to Melaka that take about two and a half hours. There is a regular bus service that connects Dumai with Pekanbaru. Dumai is a regular city with nothing much to do. It is a major connecting point for ferries that run to and from Port Klang, Port Dickson and Malacca in Malaysia but also connects other Indonesian cities such as Batam and Bengkalis.
Dumai is a small town and has nothing to offer tourists. It will take you just half a day to walk and see the town. You can hire a tricycle or book a van at your hotel. The van will take you to a large banana plantation called Pokok Pisang. And if you do stopover at Dumai then you must eat the local specialities Minang Sari and the very delicious bakso or meatball soup. A good place to try these is the Nasi Padang eatery that offers cheap yet good food.
A good place to stay in Dumai is the Comfort Hotel. The hotel is regarded as the first international level hotel in Dumai and is suitable for every type of visitor and caters to the various needs of the guests easily and without fuss. Well-appointed rooms with modern amenities make Comfort Hotel an ideal stopover option.
