Located just 20 kms from the south coast of Singapore, Batam Island is part of the Riau Islands in Indonesia. A free trade zone, it is one of the three ports that form the Sijori Growth Triangle. Spread across 415 square kilometres, the island has a population of about 700,000 people out of which 85% are Malayas and rest Chinese.
